What are the limitations of chat-based teamwork?

Chat-based teamwork allows teams to communicate quickly, but it has several limitations when used as the primary method of managing work. Messaging apps do not provide structured systems for tracking tasks, assigning responsibilities, or recording decisions. Conversations may become chaotic when multiple topics are discussed in the same chat thread. Important instructions may become buried within ongoing discussions. While messaging apps are excellent for communication, they are not designed to manage complex workflows.
